All about Sun City, Arizona
Sun City is the first-ever active retirement community in the United States. A month before Sun City’s grand opening, the community’s name had still not been chosen. However, that was by design to ramp up publicity.
The Webb Construction Company, which built the community, sponsored a nationwide contest to choose a name and awarding a brand new home to the winner. More than 100,000 people came to see Sun City during the opening weekend in January of 1960. The owner of Webb Construction Company was featured on the cover of Time magazine. A journalist wrote a five-page article about the company and the new Sun City community.

This place is absolutely incredible! All the staff are so kind to my mother, and she genuinely is happy there. It’s never easy to place our loved ones in a nursing home, but my family and I feel we made the right choice with this place.
