All about Los Ranchos de Albuquerque
Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, known locally as “Los Ranchos” or “The Village,” is located in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States. The area has been settled by humans for at least 2500 years.
Los Ranchos was historically agricultural settlements, although by 1920, much of the land was often flooded because of poor drainage. In response to this enormous problem, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District was formed in the 1920s to deal with drainage and flood control.
An extensive system of levees, ditches, laterals, drains, and canals were created to improve agriculture. These improvements opened the area to a lot more development. After World War II, there was a population explosion in Albuquerque and the Los Ranchos area. Concern over this growth on the part of local residents helped incorporate the modern Village of Los Ranchos in late 1958.
