What is a Senior Care Checklist?
Also known as:
- Senior caregiver daily checklist
- Daily caregiver checklist
- Elderly caregiver daily log
A senior care checklist is a list of daily tasks that helps caregivers streamline caregiving duties and ensure that their care recipients receive all necessary services. It covers important tasks like activities of daily living (ADLs), such as toileting and bathing, and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) like meal preparation and medication management.
What Should Be Included in a Senior Caregiver Duties Checklist?
A senior caregiver checklist should be tailored to individual seniors, keeping their unique needs, disabilities/medical needs, and preferences in mind.
Each checklist should, however, include the following:
- A place to note the date
- A meal and snacks section
- A supplement and medication management section
- Personal care and housekeeping sections
- A medical care section, such as a place to note the senior’s blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and other important vital signs
- Room for notes
- Emergency phone numbers, including contacts for family members and the senior’s healthcare providers
Based on the care recipient’s individual needs, other parts of the checklist can include:
- Incontinence care log, including potential spots to note changes in colostomy bags or catheters
- Medical appointment calendar
- An occupational therapy, speech therapy, and/or physical therapy section(s)
