The action-oriented Grief Recovery Method® is different than therapy and helps individuals move beyond the over 40 losses that can affect your life. Learn how to complete “unfinished business” and return to a full state of “aliveness”.

Whether your grief or loss is from:

  • Death
  • Loss of a career
  • Divorce
  • Loss of trust
  • Loss of health
  • Empty Nester

The goal of The Grief Recovery Method® is to help you complete your relationship to the pain, isolation, and loneliness caused by significant emotional loss. While death and divorce may seem to be the most obvious losses, our groups are not limited to those losses. There are more than 40 life events that can produce feelings of grief.

The Grief Recovery Method helps grievers deal with those things they wish might have been different or better. It gives them the chance to address their dreams and hopes for the future, which is not the future they had planned. It helps them address the words left unspoken. It helps them with the lost relationship that they thought would cause them pain for the rest of their lives. All these things may sound too good to be true, but this research shows that this dream of a better tomorrow is very possible, thanks to the Grief Recovery Action Plan!

Attend the presentation to learn more about the upcoming 8 week workshop that starts Thursday, August 18, 2022 at The Summit at Sunland Springs!

“Grief is about a broken heart, not a broken brain. All efforts to heal the heart with the head fail because the head is the wrong tool for the job. It’s like trying to paint with a hammer—it only makes a mess.”

― John W. James, The Grief Recovery Handbook: The Action Program for Moving Beyond Death, Divorce, and Other Losses

FAQ’s

Why do I need to resolve old griefs?

An incomplete past may doom the future. We find that many people alter their life choices after a series of unresolved losses. This is done to protect themselves from further heartbreak. Usually this just translates to living a guarded life and a reluctance to participate fully in relationships or new endeavors.

Do I have to continue to suffer this pain for the rest of my life?

Many people think this is the only option, and the fate they must endure forever. Many become accustomed to finding themselves in tears at odd moments throughout their days when they think of a love or relationship lost. Others believe that their loss has destroyed their happiness and sense of security, and now feel that they will be bitter and joyless forever. That is not the case. You have options that can move you out from under this cloud.

What credentials do the Specialists have?

Each of the programs is led by Certified Grief Recovery Method Specialists, trained by The Grief Recovery Institute. These Specialists are not just trained professionals but are also individuals who used this same action plan to deal with loss in their own lives, and therefore understand the pain of grief on a very personal level! Specialists are certified and contracted with the Grief Recovery Institute. However, Specialists are not licensed.

What Does Evidence Based Mean?

The term “Evidence Based” means there is research that investigated how the Grief Recovery Method works and is published in a peer-reviewed journal. For this research, by Drs. Rachael Nolan and Jeff Hallam, published their results in two articles in “The American Journal of Health Education.” They also presented these studies at several conferences.

What this means is that their studies show that The Grief Recovery Method goes beyond a “best practice” or “promising approach” in dealing with the emotional pain of loss. This means there is high confidence that those who follow the Grief Recovery Method Action Plan can find happiness in their lives despite the loss they suffered.

On May 9, 2009, I lost my 32-year-old son to Alcohol and my journey into Grief Recovery began. I used a 12 Step program, meditation, mediums, massage, tapping, Reiki, Beyond Quantum Healing, smudging, and so on in search of healing. In the last 13 years, I have lost my mom, my sister, multiple pets, and I retired. I have “counseled” countless friends through losses in a group setting and one-on-one. With all my experience, it was assumed I was an expert, but I had no formal training.

At the beginning of Covid 19, my husband and I separated. I moved to my daughter’s home, leaving my husband, home, and 7 pets behind. With these losses at a time when everyone’s world was shaken, I slipped down into a chasm of grief without any idea how to climb out of it. A friend suggested that I needed a purpose to look forward to, perhaps counseling. I was only interested in Grief counseling, so I researched Grief Recovery and this Grief Recovery Method Institute came very highly recommended to me. I choose to invest in myself and signed up for the training. That has turned out to be the best decision I could have made. Today I have new tools to handle my grief and to offer to others. More importantly, today I have hope!

I am in Mesa, AZ. I am offering small group meetings and one-on-one online meetings. If you need some direction to find recovery and hope, please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you. This was the last thing I tried and the first thing to work

On June 30, 2014 my mother who lived with me for the last eight years of her life passed away in hospice. It was a very difficult 11 days knowing she was not ready to leave this life. She, my one brother, and my uncle (her brother) are the last of my biological family. I came to this loss event with over 30 years in AA and 27 in Al-Anon, and an incredible private therapist I have worked with since 2006. I was using all the tools I’d gathered over the years and thought I was doing ok…. time would heal my broken heart. Three weeks earlier I had been laid off from a 32-year career. I recognized and was so grateful to be given the gift of undistracted time to be with my mom. The job search could wait. The day after mom’s transition from this life, my brother informed me he didn’t want a relationship with me and there was to be no further contact. Again, utilizing all my tools, my reaction to this painful rejection loss was “this too shall pass just give it time”.

These three-loss events occurring in a month had really tested my ability to cope with so much loss all at once. What I didn’t understand is that grief is accumulative. It wasn’t just these three high-stress events, it was ALL the unresolved, incomplete relationships in my life creating the perfect grief storm.

I was introduced to the Grief Recovery Method through a longtime friend who had found relief and the ability to regain happiness after tragically losing her son to addiction. Understanding her pain and the solutions she tried, I was eager to hear her story of what the Grief program did for her. Seeing her transformation from pain to happiness said “sign me up! After going through the workshop, my life went in a direction that freed me from pain and grief in a way I could never have imagined. I found freedom to complete and release the pain that was holding me back.

My greatest desire is to help you feel freedom too!

I am in Mesa, AZ. I am offering small group meetings and one-on-one sessions. If you need some direction to finding recovery and hope, please contact me. I look forward to helping you find freedom and relief from pain. I am eternally grateful for the addition of the action-based Grief Recovery process to my toolbox. The hope I have today is a gift.
